Kenichi “Roy” Hatayama, 93, of Hilo died May 3 at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Olaa, he was retired from Meadow Gold Dairies Hawaii, worked for the former Holsum Bakery, a U.S. Army veteran, active with the Boy Scouts of America and member of Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Friday (May 31) at Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission, 216 Mohouli St. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Graveside urn committal service to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. Casual attire. Survived by sons, Carl (Tina) Hatayama of Portland, Ore., Brian (Marilyn DelaCruz) Hatayama and Kent Hatayama of Hilo, Mark (Scarlett) Hatayama of Keaau; daughter, Gayla (John) Kurokawa of Hilo; sisters, Patsy Umeno of Anaheim, Calif., and Janice (James) Manalili of Kona; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
