Fiber optic cable repaired, cell and internet restored to West Hawaii
UPDATE: Police report that Hawaiian Telecom has successfully repaired its fiber optic cable and that cell and landline phone service to the west side of the island is now fully restored.
The department thanks the public for its patience while this situation was resolved.

PREVIOUS: Hawaiian Telcom is attempting to fix a broken fiber optic cable that is affecting telephone and cellphone communications in West Hawaii, including the Kona, Ka‘u and Waikoloa areas, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
The break location has been identified and crews are on the scene.
The broken cable also is impacting the public’s ability to call 9-1-1 and police stations in Kona and Ka‘u.
Many customers on the west side of Hawaii Island are not able to call out on their cellphones and landlines. If residents are in need of assistance and are unable to call 9-1-1 or the nonemergency line, they are advised to please go to the nearest police station or medical facility.
The Kona police station is located at 74-611 Hale Maka‘i Place in Kailua-Kona, and the Ka‘u police station is located in Na‘alehu at 95-5355 Mamalahoa Highway in Na‘alehu.
