The Central Pacific Bank/BIIF Division I and Division II baseball and softball finals were held on Friday and Saturday in Hilo.
DI baseball and DI softball will both go to third games, which will be held Monday.
The showdown between Hilo and Waiakea’s baseball teams was possibly the most bizarre, chaotic and unpredictable in recent history.
After Friday’s game was rained out, the teams rescheduled for a Saturday doubleheader. Waiakea routed Hilo 9-4 in the first game — but then the Vikings run-ruled Waiakea 15-0 in four innings in game two. The Tribune-Herald is currently working to determine when was the last time that Hilo run-ruled Waiakea.
The pair will throw down for the crown at 5 p.m. tomorrow at Francis Wong Stadium.
In DI softball, Kealakehe and Waiakea split two games — as the Waveriders won 18-12 on Friday before the Warriors bounced back to crush them 23-3 on Saturday. The ‘Riders and Warriors will settle the score at 3 p.m. today at UH-Hilo.
In DII softball, No.1 seed KS-Hawai‘i repeated as champion — sweeping No. 2 Kohala High in twin, run-ruled affairs at the UH-Hilo softball field. The Warriors got the series lead with a 12-2 rout of the Cowgirls on Friday, then posted the sweep with a 15-0 blowout on Saturday.
KS-Hawai‘i’s baseball team also took home a DII title — its 11th straight — sweeping Konawaena High. The Warriors won a nailbiter 2-1 on Friday before crushing the Wildcats 12-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Full stories with more information on each game will be published in the Monday editions of the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and West Hawaii Today.
