Gov. David Ige announced on Monday the release of $278 million in capital improvement funds in March for statewide infrastructure projects.
Included in that total was almost $12 million for Hawaii Island projects including:
• $1.278 million of an estimated $3.56 million for construction of a concrete water tank on Hawaiian Homes Lands in Ka‘u, projected completion July 2022.
• $100,000 in general obligation bond funds reallotted from equipment to design infrastructure improvements to the Honalo Marshalling Yard. The project has an estimated price tag of $1.1 million, projected completion June 2022.
• $175,000, the total estimated to upgrade the fire alarm system at Keaau High School, projected completion August 2022.
• $90,000, the total estimated to upgrade the fire alarm system at Keaau Middle School, projected completion August 2022.
• $140,000, the total estimated to replace air conditioning in the portable classrooms at Keaukaha Elementary School, projected completion August 2022.
• $500,000 of an estimated $675,000 to build centralized administrative offices at Kohala Hospital, projected completion date March 2022.
• $475,000, the total estimated to upgrade and replace the chiller at Hilo Medical Center, projected completion August 2021.
• $300,000, the total estimated to design a science facilities upgrade at Pahoa High and Intermediate School, projected completion March 2022.
• $8.93 million of an estimated $16.17 million for design and construction of restroom renovations at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole, projected completion February 2023.
