John Keoni Kaupu, 64, of Hilo died Dec. 23 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired general foreman for Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Shop. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 13) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Visitation again 9-11 a.m. Monday (Jan. 14) at chapel. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Aloha attire. Karie S. Wakida, 84, of Hilo died Dec. 28 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired bookkeeper for the former Divaco Cooperative, retired Waiakea Elementary School adult supervisor and crossing guard and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 12) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by son, Van (Rancha) Wakida of Hilo; daughter, Helene Meguro of Hilo; sisters, Kazue Unebasami, Michiko Okahara and Ruth (Walter) Tanaka of Honolulu; sisters-in-law, Setsuko Kanayama, Henrietta Kanayama, Florence Kanayama and Wakayo Sekiya of Honolulu, Emiko Hori and Helen (Kiyotoshi) Ozaki of Hilo, Martha Nakamoto of Kona; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
