Legge is offended at the comparison of extremists on either end of the political spectrum. Obviously, to him, since he’s correct, everybody who disagrees is wrong (isn’t that the definition of an extremist?).
I oppose everything the Ku Klux Klan and the neo-Nazis stand for, but … I defend their right to say it. Ever hear of the First Amendment? (Read it sometime, Mr. Legge.)
If you’re going to try to censor stuff you don’t like, you’re in the wrong country.
Every person has a right to their own opinion (no matter how stupid or ignorant — even you). If you’re going to get your panties in a bunch over one cartoon, stop buying the paper.

Fix fire station
On the corners of Ponahawai and Kinoole streets is the classic Central Fire Station.
The original trim and vintage fixtures are still in place, providing wonderful detail to this onetime jewel of Hilo.
I am baffled as to why a government-owned and operated facility has been left to disrepair and shameful seediness. The walls are filthy, and windows are broken and boarded up.
The well-kept lawns and gardens are in sharp contrast to the unkempt fire station.
From my perspective, I see an old neglected building occupied by fine, strong able-bodied people. There are plenty of ladders, buckets, hoses, mops, water, etc. The big trucks are often washed and buffed up.
County of Hawaii, can someone please figure out who’s job it is to tend to this lovely historic building? Not only is it a cultural and historic landmark, but it is our vitally important Central Fire Station. Some basic cleaning and repairs would go a long way. Please help lead the restoration and preservation of downtown Hilo.
