Following it 49th annual meeting and Shinnenkai, East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai announced it is offering two $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their educations this fall.
Applicants must be a senior at any East Hawaii public or private high school and must enroll full time at any accredited college or university for the 2016-17 academic year, registering for 12 credits or more. The applicant also must be a child or grandchild of an East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai member.
Application forms and instructions are available at the counselor offices at East Hawaii public and private high schools.
The application deadline for the 2016 scholarships is April 16; applications must be postmarked by this date.
The Kenjin Kai also honored its beiju members, those who have attained the auspicious age of 88 in 2016, with a certificate from the Kenjin Kai and a commemorative citation from Gov. Hidehiko Yuzaki of Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.

Fumiko Hakoda, Emiko Hamakawa, Susan Hashimoto, Kiyoko Imada, Larry Isemoto, Sue Johnson, Kazue Kaide, Yoshiko Kaisen, Taeko Kunimitsu, Wallis Nagareda, Yoshimi Nakayama, Norma Samson and Clara Yanabu.
