This session, the 95th year of the historic club, saw Wally Wong installed as president; Mitchell Dodo as vice president; Susan Munro as secretary; and Alan Kusunoki as treasurer. Eleven other Rotary members also were installed in various committees and duties.
The keynote speaker was Bruce Blankenfeld, pwo navigator and current captain of the Polynesian voyaging canoe Hokule‘a.
“The Rotary International theme for this new fiscal year is ‘Be a Gift to the World,’ and our local Hilo theme will be ‘Malama Honua,’ taking care and preserving the earth, the land,” said Wong, who will be aboard the Hokule‘a in August. “Both of these themes work together well, as Rotary International strives to better the world and our club strives to better our community.”
