The Alzheimer’s Association will be presenting lectures during three Saturdays in August at the Aging and Disability Resource Center in Hilo.
Aug. 1
• 1 p.m. “What Is Dementia,” a workshop which reviews dementia, the symptoms, warning signs, misconceptions and potential treatments.
The presentation will include short videos of people with the disease, family members of people with dementia and insight from various professionals.
• 3 p.m. The movie “Age Old Friends” will be shown.
• 5 p.m. “Living with Forgetfulness,” first of a three-part series for anyone who is forgetful. Attendees do not have to have a diagnosis to attend.
Aug. 8
• 1 p.m. “Legal Aspects in Dementia” workshop covers information on advance directives, various legal documents and planning strategies.
• 3 p.m. The movie “A Song for Martin” will be shown.
• 5 p.m. “Living with Forgetfulness,” part two.
Aug. 15
• 1 p.m. “Communi-cations in Dementia” and “Challenging Behaviors in Dementia.”
This workshop covers information on communication and possible causes and types of behaviors that may arise during the course of dementia as well as potential interventions.
• 3 p.m. The film “Memories of Tomorrow” will be shown.
• 5 p.m. “Living with Forgetfulness,” part three.
Hilo program coordinator Chris Ridley will conduct the workshops, the three movies are free, and seating is limited.
