Due to a high demand, Luana Kawelu, president of the Merrie Monarch Festival, and KFVE will present two-night special broadcast featuring the festival’s Ho‘ike performances. The programs will air from 7-9 p.m. today and Friday and will feature the entirety of the four-hour event. This broadcast will be shown online at www.k5thehometeam.com.
“The Wednesday Ho‘ike, celebrating 50-years of the Merrie Monarch Festival, was one of the hottest tickets this year in Hilo, and we are proud to be able to share this exclusive one-of-a-kind event with our viewers here and throughout the world,” said KFVE General Manager John Fink.
The 2013 Ho‘ike, held on Wednesday, April 3, featured performances by Halau O Kekuhi, Hau‘oli Hula Maidens and Hau‘oli Hula Girls (Twyla Mendez), ‘Ilima Hula Studio and ‘Ilima Sweethearts (Lani-Girl Kaleiki-AhLo), Na Pualei O Likolehua (Leina‘ala Heine), Na Kamalei (Robert Uluwehi Cazimero), Waimapuna, Robert Cazimero, Manu Boyd, Keali‘i Reichel, KumZ, Mark Yamanaka, Kuana Torres Kahele, Natalie A‘i Kamau‘u, Darren Benitez, Moon Kauakahi, Glenn Smith, Chris Kamaka and Horace Dudoit’s and more.
