A Dream Come True is hosting a fundraising all-you-can-eat ice cream party for terminally and seriously ill Big Island keiki from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 7 at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.
Singers and musicians Mark Yamanaka, Kris Fuchigami, Vizion 20/20, Keawe Trio and the Taishoji Taiko group will provide live entertainment. There also will be numerous keiki games, face painting, a tattoo artist, balloon figures, mini-express train ride, keiki ID cards, Home Depot and photo booths, and a dental exhibit.
Thousands of dollars in prizes for lucky drawings (must be present to win) will be given away throughout the party. In addition to ice cream, admission includes an individual chili/rice bowl and juice. Hot dogs, nachos, chili, Braddah Pops, colored popcorn and cotton candy will be available for purchase.
A total of 87 Big Island terminally and seriously ill keiki were granted their dreams since 1985 by the nonprofit ADCT. Keiki younger than 17 have been assisted with having their dreams met — whether to assist the family with critical needs or take a trip to Disneyland.
ADCT is dependent on businesses, community organizations and individual donors for its funding.
“All monies raised stay here on the Big Island for our keiki in need,” said ADCT President Lloyd Narimatsu. “To see firsthand the precious joy of helping our keiki couldn’t be realized without your love and generosity!”
Major sponsors of this year’s party are KTA Super Stores, FM radio stations KAPA and KBIG, and Meadow Gold.
Created by Hawaii County fire personnel in 1985, the mission of the nonprofit A Dream Come True is to fulfill the wishes of the Big Island’s seriously ill children between the ages of 4 and 17.
