HILO — After falling to Kamehameha-Hawaii last week, Waiakea girls volleyball got back on track after a quick sweep of Christian Liberty Academy on Tuesday night at home — winning in straight sets of 25-7, 25-10 and 25-15.
The Lady Warriors have won nine of their last 10, defeating the likes of Hilo, Laupahoehoe, Kea‘au, CLA, Pahoa, Ka‘u and Connections. Waiakea currently sits at 10-2 on the season as one of the only BIIF teams in double-digit wins.
The Lady Warriors will next take on local rival Hilo at 10 a.m. Saturday at home, with junior varsity playing first. When the teams last met on Aug. 26, they played in arguably the most exciting match of the season thus far, with Waiakea winning in five close sets.
The Canefire dropped to 2-10, and have only posted wins against Connections in 2025. They’ll return to the court against KSH at 6 p.m. Thursday in Kea‘au. KSH swept CLA in their last matchup on Aug. 25.
Other matchups
Kamehameha-Hawaii girls volleyball remained perfect after a close swep of fellow east-side rival Hilo by scores of 25-20, 26-24 and 25-21. The Lady Warriors are the only team remaining in the BIIF that hasn’t lost a set in 2025, and one of two teams that are still unbeaten at 11-0 (as of Wednesday afternoon).
The Lady Warriors were led by Shay Beals and Kdynse Apaka, who combined for 25 kills.
KSH additionally played Kea‘au late Wednesday night; see Friday’s paper for more. With four matches remaining for the Lady Warriors, they have beaten Hilo, Kea‘au, Connections, Waiakea, CLA, Ka‘u, Laupahoehoe, Pahoa and Connections.
The Vik Queens have lost two of their last three, and will look to redeem themselves against Waiakea on Saturday. Hilo still remains at the top of the BIIF at 9-3, collecting wins against Kea‘au, Pahoa, Ka‘u, CLA, Laupehoehoe and Connections.
KSH and Hilo’s junior varsity squads also matched up, with the Vik Queens taking victory in two frames — 25-17 and 25-14.
Up in Waimea, Parker girls volleyball ended their regular season perfect with a straight-sets sweep over Kealakehe on Tuesday. The Lady Bulls won by set scores of 25-13, 25-22 and 25-21.
Parker locked up a top seed in the upcoming island playoff tournament after sweeping Kealakehe, finishing the regular season with a 14-0 record — beating HPA, Kealakehe, Honoka‘a, Kanu o ka ‘Aina, Makua Lani Christian Academy, Konawaena and Kohala. The Lady Bulls lost just four sets total.
Per ScoringLive, the Lady Bulls have no regular season matches remaining, and will await for the BIIF postseason to begin. The 4-4 Lady Waveriders, however, next play HPA at 5 p.m. tonight inside Castle Gymnasium, with junior varsity slated to play first. When the two schools last faced off on Aug. 25, Ka Makani won in three sets.
HPA and Kealakehe junior varsity also played, with the Lady Bulls winning by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 15-13.
Across town, HPA broke its three-match losing streak after handling Honoka‘a in straight sets Tuesday at home, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-10. It was the second time this season that Ka Makani defeated the Lady Dragons.
HPA improved to 6-4, and has additional wins against Makua Lani, Kohala, Kanu and Kealakehe. They’ll return to action tonight against the Lady Waveriders.
Honoka‘a fell to 4-7. The Lady Dragons have wins against Makua Lani, Kanu and Kohala in 2025. They’ll return to the court against Kanu on Tuesday inside the Honoka‘a Armory.
