All four teams entered the matches without any losses on their records, and the afternoon yielded close scores.
Girls:
KSH 1 – Hilo 1
Monday’s showdown ended in a stalemate as both teams walked away still undefeated.
Hilo’s Kryslynn Nabarro knocked in the outing’s first goal, a 15-yard shot assisted by Aneala Sibayan — giving the Vikings a 1-0 halftime lead.
At the 55-minute mark, KSH’s Madisyn Meyer scored on a penalty kick to even things out.
Hilo (5-0-1) will make one more appearance before the year’s end — a home game at 2 p.m. Thursday against Konawaena High (0-1-1). The Vikings will kick off 2024 with another matchup against the Wildcats — accompanying their boys team on Jan. 5 in Kealakekua.
Monday was the Warriors’ second tie of the season, moving to 2-0-2. They will return to action Jan. 5 with a home double-header against Kea‘au High (0-5).
Boys:
KSH 1 – Hilo 0
The Vikings and Warriors battled for dominance, going scoreless until the second half — when KSH’s William Henderson knocked a 65-foot goal.
The Warriors will end the calendar year 4-0, making their next pitch appearance Jan. 5 at home against Kea‘au High (1-1-1).
Hilo fell to 3-1, and will also have down time until 2024 — when the Vikings will play away Jan. 5 at Konawaena High (1-1-0) in a double-header.
