Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old Ocean View man and his mother.

Officers, acting on information that Keoni Sanderson was in a vehicle in the 75-1000 block of Henry Street in Kailua-Kona, canvassed the area at about 1:15 p.m. Friday afternoon, and quickly located the vehicle.

During a traffic stop, officers determined the car was being driven by Sanderson’s mother, 54-year-old Kimberly Sanderson of Ocean View. According to police, officers also noted Keoni Sanderson attempting to hide in the car.

According to police, Kimberly Sanderson tried to lock the vehicle’s door and physically attempted to prevent officers from taking her son — who was wanted on outstanding warrants — into custody, but the officers prevailed after a brief struggle.

Both Sandersons were taken to Kealakehe Police Station, where they were later charged with several offenses.

Keoni Sanderson was charged with six counts of first-degree bail jumping; three counts of violating conditions of release on bail, two counts of first-degree assault against a police officer, resisting arrest, possessing an open container of liquor as a vehicle passenger, and contempt of court.

His bail was set at $62,000.

Kimberly Sanderson was charged with obstructing a government operation, first-degree hindering prosecution, possessing of an open container of liquor as a driver, and driving without a license and insurance.

Her bail was set at $13,250.

Both were scheduled to make their initial appearances Monday in Kona District Court.
