A 20-year-old Pahoa woman faces felony charges for an alleged domestic assault last week.
Cherish Anela Torres was charged Thursday with second-degree assault, domestic abuse aggravated by strangulation and second-degree terroristic threatening.
Her bail was set at $3,500, police said.
According to police, the charges stem from an incident at about 3 a.m. Tuesday in a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Ohiki Street and Puni Makai Loop in Hawaiian Beaches. A verbal argument between Torres and the victim escalated to a physical confrontation. Torres reportedly pulled the keys out of the ignition, sat on top of the victim’s lap and struck him multiple times with a closed fist to the top of his head.
The man allegedly tried to remove Torres from the car, but was cut with a sharp instrument to his right forearm causing an approximate six-inch substantial laceration. The man told police Torres also reportedly threatened to kill him.
Torres was to have made an initial appearance Friday in Hilo District Court, but no records of it appear on the Judiciary website, which would indicate Torres posted bail.
Potential witnesses are asked to contact police Detective Corina McLellan at (808) 961-2373, or email@example.com.
