Honokaa shooting suspect charged with attempted murder

WHITEHEAD-SHIBATA

Police have charged a 29-year-old Kawaihae man with a shooting in Honokaa Tuesday night at the Salvation Army’s Rickard Place campus that critically injured a 39-year-old man.

On Thursday, Keola Whitehead-Shibata was charged with attempted second-degree murder, prohibited possession of a firearm and use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony.

Whitehead-Shibata’s bail is set at $1,075,000, he remains in police custody and his initial appearance is scheduled for Friday in Hilo District Court.

The victim, identified by a Salvation Army official as Arthur Franklin, remains in The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in stable condition.
