Army, county continue to battle two remote brush fires; no threat to populated areas
As of this morning, firefighting crews from Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii County, and volunteers, plus bulldozer operators, continue to fight a pair of wildland fires at Keamuku Maneuver Area Complex.
The fires, which were started by lightning strikes at about 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, have burned about 1,500 acres thus far and, as of this morning, were about 5% contained.
Currently, there is no community threat, and there are no units or troops training in the area.
PTA dozers and civilian contract dozers continue to build fire lines to mitigate the spread of the fires. PTA is bringing in three additional U.S. Army military helicopters from Oahu this morning to support with water bucket drops.
