Vulcans roll over Academy of Art 7-0

It was lucky sevens all around as the nationally-ranked No. 7 Vulcans women’s soccer team notched its seventh win and closed its first home stand strong with a 7-0 victory over Academy of Art on Saturday in Pacific West Conference play at home.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute with a 75-foot goal from Jodi Lillie.

UH-Hilo totaled 29 shots, 14 on goal, while Art U took just one.

Daelenn Tokunaga, Adree Johnson, Brende Yoshizumi and Nanea Wall also netted goals in the first half as Annie Haglund and Keely Rooker scored in the closing minutes of the game.

Grace VerHage, Jordan Parrish, Zariah Nogales and Wall also recorded assists for the Vulcans.

Lolo Retsky started in goal and improved her record to 7-0-1, sharing in the shutout, as Viviana Poli made her first appearance of the season, playing the full second half of the match.

UH-Hilo improved to 7-0-1 overall, 2-0-0 PacWest, while Academy of Art fell to 0-2-0 in the conference and 0-10-0 overall.

The Vulcans will take a two-game interisland slate against Chaminade, 2-0 PacWest, and Hawaii Pacific, 1-0-1 PacWest, next weekend on Oahu.

UH-Hilo will return to the Vulcan Soccer Field for the final two home matches of the season on Oct. 15 against Fresno Pacific and on Oct. 18 against Holy Names.
