WAIMEA — Thelma Parker Memorial Public &School Library of the Hawaii State Public Library System is joining hundreds of sites across the country to celebrate the release of the first science images from the James Webb Space Telescope, NASA’s next great space science observatory.
The Webb First Images Celebration, a NASA@My Library event, will be held outside the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The family-friendly event, which is free and open to the public, is being presented in partnership with Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Girl Scouts of Hawaii, ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center, NASA Solar System Ambassadors, University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy and W.M. Keck Observatory.
Attendees can participate in a variety of educational space science activities.
“We are thrilled to be an official host site for NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope community event celebrating Webb’s first stunning images,” Pamela Akao, branch manager at Thelma Parker Memorial Public &School Library, said in a press release.
“Along with our wonderful partners, we’re excited to help our community celebrate this amazing feat of science and engineering,” she said.
