UPDATE: Police ID child killed in shooting accident

Police have identified the child killed in the shooting accident that occurred Sunday at Camp Honokaia as 12-year-old Manuel “Manny” Carvalho.

An autopsy performed Tuesday concluded that the child who died Sunday in a shooting accident at Camp Honokaia was killed by a single gunshot.

The boy was 12, according to police.

Police are continuing the investigation into the shooting, and interviews with children and adults who were present at the Boy Scout camp are ongoing.

Police have not yet said what type of gun killed the boy, or how the accident happened.

This case is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest. At this time, police do not suspect foul play.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending further investigation.
