No thanks, Kahele
Kai Kahele was so committed to representing us in Washington that he now wants to be Hawaii’s next governor?
I’m OK with him resigning after finishing his term, as he has never represented me. But as our next governor? It’s a hard pass for me.
Don’t forget, he originally got into office after Gov. David Ige appointed him to his late father’s state Senate seat. How convenient then to move to up to the U.S. House in Washington when Tulsi Gabbard resigned to run for president.
According to Civil Beat, Kahele has voted by proxy at least 120 times since taking office, voting in person only five times, citing the near universal excuse, the “ongoing public health emergency.
He worked out a sweet deal with Hawaiian Airlines to keep his pilot job while “representing” us, but maybe his being on the Aviation Subcommittee in the House gave him a leg up on that front. At any rate, he’s just another self-serving politician.
By the way, Josh Green will not be any better. The only difference there is he’s been in the state government hierarchy long enough to be more adept at dodging the usual pitfalls. And compared to Gov. Ige during the public health emergency mentioned above, Green managed to come across at least slightly more reasoned.
Why not look at another option? Haven’t we had enough authoritarian tax-and-regulate Democrats in Hawaii to last a lifetime?

Save Longs store
I would like to ask the customers of Longs Drugs pharmacy at 670 Ponahawai St. to join me in calling corporate to protest the closing of the store.
I have used this pharmacy for approximately 40 years and find the staff and Marq Sims, the pharmacist manager, to be helpful, kind and professional. I feel it is unconscionable for Longs to close this store and hope you agree.
We have lost so many providers during the pandemic, it’s incredibly hard to lose another if we can make a difference.

Disband military
As a senior Buddhist priest, I would like to express my support for Jim Albertini’s work in trying to reduce or eliminate all military presence on this island.
How anyone could think that the military is essential to the welfare of Hawaii is beyond my comprehension. I was against this country’s invasion of Vietnam many years ago, and I continue to be strongly opposed to any military presence here.
All the land taken from the people of Hawaii and used as a base at Pohakuloa Training Area should be returned to the Hawaiian people. Our military doesn’t need more training, it needs to be disbanded.
