Of the seven BIIF boys soccer matches played last week, six were decided by deficits of at least five goals.
The forecast for Monday, however, calls for closer competition thanks to a pair of compelling matchups: Waiakea at Hawaii Prep, and Hilo High at Makua Lani.
“Should be exciting,” Lions coach Teva Beatty said in a text to the Tribune-Herald about his team’s contest with the Vikings at 3 p.m. at Old Kona Airport.
Makua Lani (3-0) has gone untested in outscoring its opposition 30-0, while Hilo (2-1) will make its second trip to West Hawaii in three days after beating Konawaena 9-0 on Saturday.
The game between the Warriors (4-0) and Ka Makani (1-0-1) is a matchup of reigning BIIF champs.
“Playing against HPA is always a game that we look forward to,” Waiakea coach David Urakami said. “It brings a high level game and good soccer.”
Saturday
Hilo 9, Konawaena 0: Leha Harman netted three goals and Sequoia Cortes-Medeiros added two as the Vikings cruised in Kealakekua.
Logan Ehrenlencher, Ko’ae Pe’a, Kani Tolentino-Perry and Michael DeCoito also scored goals, and Tait Labra and Keona Daleres shared in the shutout of the Wildcats (0-5).
Kealakehe 9, Honokaa 0: Matthew Enriquez scored five times – pushing his goal total to 15 – and Micah Carson added two at Waverider Stadium.
Marcos Garcia-Creus and Shane Carroll scored a goal apiece, and Duke Becker kept a clean sheet against the Dragons (2-2).

Waiakea 8, Christian Liberty 0: Tevin Atwal tallied four goals – giving him eight on the season – and Aziah Nelson recorded his first hat trick in a match played at Keaau High.
Rogelito Doratt also scored, and Kawena Calles and Kainalu Mattos each played goalkeeper in the shutout of the Canefire (0-3).
Thursday
Parker 6, Konawaena 1: Everett Gordon, Fatuaiga Fuga and Skye Raymond scored two goals apiece as the Bulls won their first match of the season.

Saturday
Hawaii Prep 2, Kealakehe 2: Ruby Helmuth scored on a free kick outside the penalty box with about 9 minutes remaining at Waverider Stadium as Ka Makani played to its second draw in as many matches this season.
Liana Lincoln and Layla Grace tallied goals for the Waveriders (2-0-1).
HPA’s other goal also came on a set piece. In the first half, Davan Rooney headed in a corner kick from Mixtli Robles-Lindsey.
Hilo 6, Konawaena 1: The Vikings got goals from six different players to win on the road.
Chloe Saplan netted her third goal of the season, Briana-Jean Tanaka bagged her second and Naliipoaimoku Harman, Sera Varize, Kaylee Yamada, Kryslynn Nabarro also found the back of the net for Hilo (2-1).
Naia Balancio scored on a penalty kick for the Wildcats (0-2).
