Kazuyoshi “Kaz” Ide, 92, of Richmond, Calif., died Aug. 4 at home. Born in Hilo, he was retired from the State of California Children’s Services, was a graudate of the University of Hawaii, studied social work and public health at Indiana University and the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health, was a member of the Japanese American Citizens League, artist, writer, poet and storyteller. Service at a later date at the Berkeley Buddhist Temple in California. Memorial donations to an endowment fund in his honor at Bishop Museum, attention of Melanie Ide at Bishop Museum, Honolulu. Survived by former wife, Tokiko Nishida Ide; daughters Laura Ide and Melanie (Christiaan Kuypers) Ide; a grandson; other relatives and caregivers.
Ricky Tetsuo Shibata, 58, of Hilo died July 18 at Straub Clinic and Hospital in Honolulu. Born in Hilo, he was an auto body mechanic and member of Komohana Gardens Association. 9:30-10:30 a.m. today at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Ah Qu Chong Silva, 96, of Hilo died July 30 at a private foster care home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired clerk-typist for the county Department of Public Works County and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ainaola Ward.
