Mollie K. Esmeralda, 97, of Keopu died June 14 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a babysitter and member of Keola Mauloa Church. Services at a later date. Survived by son, Donald (Betty) Esmeralda of Waimea; daughter, Stella Sumarnap of Kailua-Kona; hanai sons, Jacob (Cindy) Chong of Waimea, Alston (Darlene) Chong, Melvin (Sara) Thomas Jr. and Leroy Ortizl of Kailua-Kona; seven grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren and a great-great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. James Hideo Kato, 96, of Hilo died June 18 in Las Vegas. Born in Wailuku, Maui, he was retired public schools vice principal and teacher, Realtor for Yamanaka Realty, member of New Hope Hilo, Waiakea Lions Club, Waiakea Kyoei Kumiai, Hawaii Island Adult Care and Cielo Vista Senior Adult Care, and a veteran of the U.S. Army 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday (July 10) at New Hope Hilo, 840 Kupulau Rd. Celebration of life at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Face masks and social distancing required. Survived by son, Kelvin Kato of Maui; brother, Richard Kato of Nevada; sister-in-law, Sumie Ni‘i of Hilo; caregiver, Sonja Faye Estrada Nakahara of Hilo; two granddaughters; nieces and nephews. Alice Martins Gouveia Kawaauhau, 77, of Naalehu died June 14, 2021 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center in Hilo. Born in Kona, she was homemaker and member of Big Island Remnant Ministries in Naalehu. Private services and burial held. Survived by spouse, Lot Kawaauhau Sr. of Naalehu; sons, Lot Kawaauhau Jr. of Naalehu and Scotty (Geraldine Kala Latu) Kawaauhau of Hilo; daughters, Cynthia (Wade) Baji, Clover Kawaauhau (Dominic) Gouveia and Alice Gouveia of Naalehu, Christine Kawaauhau and Elizabeth Kaimiola of Kona; brothers, Gary Gouveia, David (Tammy) Gouveia and Johnnie (Rhoda) Medeiros of Kona, Alfred (Marvaleen) Gouveia of Ocean View; sisters, Stella (Eddie) Kuahiwinui of Ocean View, Hawaii Beatrice Freitas of Mountain View and Loriann Gouveia of Hilo; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews. Warren “Bill” William Miller, 85, of Kailua-Kona died June 12 at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born in Lincoln, Neb., he was a real estate broker, high school teacher, member of Keauhou Yacht Club and Kona Elks Lodge, and U.S. Army veteran. Services at a later date. Survived by wife, Victoria Miller of Kailua-Kona; sister, Mary Simon of California; two nieces and two nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Mildred Midori Miyahara, 91, of Hilo died June 21 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kalaheo, Kauai, she was a retired office manager for the former Ted H. Miyahara CPA, Inc. Private services held. Survived by husband, Ted Miyahara of Hilo; son, Miles (Yanhua) Miyahara of Hilo; daughter, Colleen Takamura of Wailuku, Maui; sister, Violet Burgess of Aiea, Oahu; two grandchildren.
