An Ocean View man was arrested earlier this week for suspected animal abuse after more than 50 dogs were reportedly discovered on his property.
Police began an investigation of Alfred Cababag, a 61-year-old Hawaii Ocean View Estates resident, in December after they received a report of numerous dogs and possible animal neglect on his property. An investigation determined that several of the 53 dogs observed on the property were “severely undernourished,” according to a police news release.
Police executed a search warrant at Cababag’s property on Tuesday, where members of the Hawaii Rainbow Rangers determined that 46 of the 53 dogs found on the property were either undernourished or injured or in need of additional care.
Cababag was arrested for suspicion of felony cruelty to animals in the second degree and was released pending further investigation.
The dogs were transported to a Kamuela animal shelter, where a veterinarian will conduct thorough examinations of each animal.
