Gary Elwyn Monell, 85, of Captain Cook died Sept. 12 at home. Born in San Diego, he was a former college professor at San Diego Mesa Community College, and retired U.S. Navy captain. Services at a later date. Survived by wife, Connie Monell of Kailua-Kona; son, Derek (Joann Sarubbi) Monell of Captain Cook; daughter, Cherie (Michael) Eulau of Ventura, Calif.; brother, Jerry (Germaine) Monell of San Diego; three grandchildren. Raymond Melicio Paglinawan, 56, of Captain Cook died Dec. 9 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, he was a construction laborer, grounds maintenance man at Kukio Golf Course, and member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Services at a later date. Mary Nanea Reeves Sai, 80, of Glenwood died Dec. 4 at home. Born in Kuli‘ou‘ou Valley, Oahu, she was a retired district manager for Alu Like Inc. and member of the Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club &Choral group and Hui Aloha ‘Aina o Ka Lei Maile Ali‘i. Services at a later date on Oahu. Survived by husband, Dennis Kapua Sai; son, Keanu (Kina) Sai; daughter, Katherine (Kevin) Medeiros; brother, Robert (Lani) Reeves; sisters, Martha DeMello and Sister Rose Henry Reeves; brother-in-law, Herman (Susan) Texeira, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law and cousins. Kikuo Tobara, 83, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 8 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born in Hakalau, he was the retired owner of Paul’s Upholstery. No services.
