During the week of April 27-May 3, Hawaii Island Police arrested 11 motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident; two were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, four; Puna, three; South Hilo, two; North Hilo and North Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 301 DUI arrests compared with 386 during the same period last year, a decrease of 22%.
There have been 280 major accidents so far this year compared to 329 during the same period last year, a decrease of 14.9%.
To date, there have been eight official traffic fatalities compared to six during the same time period last year, an increase of 33.3%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue.
