We’ve had enough
I was extremely impressed with the letters printed in the April 28 edition (Tribune-Herald, Your Views).
I agree wholeheartedly with both writers! We are so lucky to live on this island, but let’s admit it … we have enough to deal with over here without additional and unnecessary encumbrances.
We have not had a single death here, and nobody is even in the hospital. It’s nice that they are sending the “test for coronavirus and COVID-19” vehicle around the island (inquiring minds want to know!)
But let’s face reality. If we really want to stop the virus from spreading, how about setting up the tests at the airports and the harbors (duh!)?
Please, let small businesses get back to work. Most of us are not retired and have mortgages. I hope our mayor will stand up to Gov. David Ige and tell him that the good people of Hawaii Island have had enough.
Let’s get back to normal.

Trump vs. Amazon
This is in response to the Associated Press article about the U.S. Postal Service and Amazon (Tribune-Herald, April 25).
President Trump’s little mind is still spinning from the fallout regarding yet another moronic statement, this time ingesting Lysol to fight COVID-19.
So, typical of his bullying fashion, the very next day he once again lashes out, this time at Jeff Bezos and Amazon.
Bezos is a man who’s exactly polar opposite of Trump. Bezos earned “it” the old fashion way; no daddy to put him in business. Neither does Bezos have a string of failing or bankrupt hotels and casinos. To my knowledge, Bezos isn’t in debt to China’s state-owned bank like Trump is for at least $200 million on a New York property.
According to IRS transcripts, Mr. Trump racked up at least $1 billion dollars in losses during a 10-year period (1985-94). Speaking of taxes, like all Americans, Bezos files his. It appears that instead of filing taxes, Trump busies his attorneys (those he hasn’t fired or are in jail), keeping his taxes out of sight. The reasons are as obvious as his orange spray-on tan.
So Trump is refusing to bail out the United States Postal Service, unless it raises postage fees on Amazon and other internet companies. Oblivious, of course, is this president to Amazon and the internet being swamped in around-the-clock work fulfilling millions of orders, helping America deal with the most difficult days since the Great Depression. Amazon alone hired 100,000 new employees in the past eight weeks.
Trump’s too involved tweeting hate and lies at all hours to notice much of anything relative to an average American.
Here’s one for you, Mr. Trump: Where’s the ultimatum to the U.S. airlines that last year alone collected $5 billion in baggage fees — a loophole unheard of a few short years ago during a time when, if lucky, you might have received an edible meal.
Today what hasn’t changed is the recycled dirty air spreading viral infections like a plague. Worn cushions, tiny blankets for sale, overall unkempt airplanes.
Then there are restrooms. Do we have to? Airborne Petri dishes.
No matter. For the third time in 20 years, U.S. airlines receive a bailout, this time Trump authorizes $18 billion with no restrictions, no payback, or promises necessary, business as usual, until the next bailout.
The kicker is that soon Amazon won’t need the USPS because as of this year only 40% of its packages are shipped by USPS. Amazon is busy purchasing thousands of electric vehicles, various aircraft and more fulfillment centers powered by alternative energy sources.
So you see, Mr. Trump, your “whole new ballgame” in your proposed increase in charges to Amazon and the internet are nothing more than the same old clueless, idiotic hot air you’re so well known for throughout the world.
