A Wednesday afternoon house fire in the Waiakea Uka area of Hilo was extinguished quickly, likely because of the home’s proximity to the Haihai Street Fire Station.
Seven units responded to the 3:55 p.m. alarm at 75 Laula Road, according to a written Hawaii Fire Department statement. The first unit, which arrived on scene two minutes later, witnessed light smoke and fire originating from an open lanai area of the home.
The first was brought under control at 4:02 p.m. and extinguished at 4:55 p.m.
The quick action limited losses to an estimated $23,100, with estimated property value saved at more than $207,500.
No one was home when the fire occurred and there were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
