A five-part series on gentle birth will be presented by Mala Landt, certified professional midwife, and the Big Island Birth Doula Collective.
Classes are free and will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sundays, March 8-April 5, at Sweet Cane Cafe in Hilo.
Several topics will be covered to educate parents on how to create a gentle birth with doula support.
Sunday: Prenatal Care or Prenatal Scare? Trust that you’re biologically made to give birth! You can birth without fear. Come ask questions and learn to break the cycle of fear and birth.
March 15: Choices That Support a Gentle Birth. Get educated about certain choices that you need to make about your labor and birth in order to feel at ease and prepared with continuous doula support.
March 22: Hormones, Birth and Sexuality. Understanding how hormones play a big role in mom’s labor and birth and her sexuality. Learn how to create a safe and undisturbed environment for a gentle birth.
March 29: Comfort Measures. Experience a variety of comforting techniques including hoku, birth balls, rebozos, music, massage, aromatherapy and understand how posture, position and passage are key in progressing labor.
April 5: The Postpartum Revolution. Exploring the importance of mother/baby bonding, skin-to-skin contact, placenta care, delayed cord cutting, breastfeeding and postpartum plans.
