The Hilo Palace proudly announces auditions for their first Spring musical, the Disney classic “Beauty and the Beast.”
Singers, dancers and skilled circus performers of all ages are encouraged to audition during any of the following dates/times:
6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.8; 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11.
Callbacks will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12. All auditions will take place at the Palace Theater.
“Please wear comfortable clothes for a short choreography session and prepare 16 bars of an audition piece with accompaniment tracks,” said Larry Reitzer, director. “If you to prefer to sing with an accompanist, please bring sheet music, a pianist will be available.
If using tracks, it is strongly recommended to have your accompaniment predownloaded onto your portable device,” said Reitzer.
This fun and family-friendly musical, adapted from the original Oscar-winning Disney film, brings to life the timeless story of a selfish and hot tempered prince who is turned into a hideous beast and must win the affection of a beautiful, young girl in order to regain his humanity. This musical includes the classic songs: “Be Our Guest,” “If I Can’t Love Her,” “Belle,” the title song “Beauty and the Beast” and many more.
This Production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” will be the Hilo Palace’s first production of their newly formed Youth Theatre Company which will offer young singers, dancers and actors an opportunity to star alongside more experienced, older performers in a family-friendly production aimed for audiences of all ages.
The show will be directed by Larry Reitzer who recently directed A”Aladdin Jr.” at the University of Hawaii at Hilo as well as “Gypsy” at the Palace, and will have choreography by Nadia Schlosser and musical direction by Lisa Katherine Taylor.
The “Beauty and the Beast” Children’s Chorus will feature Taylor’s Anuenue Chorus and Glee Club.
