Masaru “Masa” “Maru” Deguchi, 91, of Kealakekua died Dec. 13 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, he was a retired maintenance worker for Kona Market Place, coffee farmer, bowler and member of Daifukuji Soto Mission and Kona Fukuoka Kenjin Kai. Visitation 3-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at Kona Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo. Service at 4 p.m., followed by a celebration of life in the Kona Daifukuji Soto Mission Social Hall. Calvin Fumio Uratani, 73, of Hilo died Dec. 5 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired utility mechanic for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and U.S. Army veteran.
