The Rev. Alice Elizabeth “Nani” Duffy Babin, 82, of Salem, Va., formerly of Kealakekua, died Aug. 31. Born in New Orleans, she was an ordained Episcopal priest who served congregations and entities including Christ Church Episcopal in Kealakekua, St. George’s Episcopal Church in Mount Savage, Md., Hawaii AIDS Clinical Trials Unit in Honolulu, Cathedral at St. Andrews and The Priory School in Honolulu and Duke University in Durham, N.C. Private services. No flowers. Memorial donations to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, Va. 24018. Timothy Allen Brinley, 70, of Keaau died Aug. 30 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Tacoma, Wash., he was a retired registered nurse. Private services at a later date. Survived by daughters, Chandra (Fetu) Amuimuia of Hilo and Amber Brinley-Nyza of Kaneohe, Oahu; brother, John (Gailanne) Brinley of Florida; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandson; a niece and a nephew. Jovencio Fronda Gamiao, 84, of Honokaa died Aug. 17 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in the Philippines, he was a baker and member of Jehovah’s Witnesses Honokaa Iloko Congregation. Memorial service at a later date. Survived by wife, Morayta Gamiao of Honokaa; daughters, Lorna Gamiao of the Philippines and Lesile (Jose A.) Miguel Jr. of Honokaa; sons, Jonan (Florence) Gamiao, Joven (Maria Antonia) Gamiao and Joveleo (Analyn) Gamiao of the Philippines; hanai children, Keren Gamiao and Keziah (Steven) Cutrell of Honolulu. Roman Moses Molina, 85, of Keaau died Sept. 4 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired mechanic for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co., member of Waikahe Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alu Like of Pahoa and a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran from the Army Reserve. Visitation 4-5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Memorial prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Urn committal services 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. (Dorothy) Molina of Vancouver, B.C., Canada; daughters, Dwyna (James) Potter and Denise (Clarence) Pila of Hilo; hanai son, Wendell Austria of Kalapana; brother, Florentino Molina of Hilo; stepson, David A. Richard Heinz Santos, 68, of Hilo died Sept. 3 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a former member of the Arc of Hilo. Private services held. Survived by mother, Lieselotte “Lilo” Santos of Hilo; brother, Rainer W. Santos of Hilo; a niece and two nephews. Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary.


Roy Takumi Yamashita, 80, of Hilo died Aug. 20 at Adventist Health Castle in Kailua, Oahu. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a retired automobile technician for the former Hawaii Motors. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by companion, Sandra Kiyota of Hilo; daughters, Janna (Connie Watanabe) Yamashita of Kapolei, Oahu, Debra (Troy) Funai and Tianne Yamashita of Hilo; brother, Kenneth (Maureen) Yamashita of Kailua; sisters, Lynne Mayeda of Kaneohe, Oahu, and Cherrie (Arthur) Amasaki of Torrance, Calif.; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Leah L. Wheeler, 96, of Paauilo died Jan. 22 at home. Born in Ariel, Wash., she was an artist, writer, gardener and served during World War II with the Women’s Army Air Corps. Cards to P.O. Box 436, Paauilo, HI, 96776. Installation of grave markers for Leah and late husband, Jack, will be held at the family cemetery. Those wanting to participate can write same address.
