Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Waimea and NOLS Wilderness Medicine are partnering to offer a course to become certified in advanced wilderness first aid.
The course is open to anyone 16 and older and is slated for Oct. 3-7.
This internationally recognized certification course focuses on the early recognition, prevention and treatment of medical emergencies when they happen in remote settings with delayed hospital access.
Participants will learn to stabilize, treat and make evacuation decisions for patients in backcountry environments, with an emphasis on longterm patient care management and specific injury evaluation.
In addition to
plenty of time practicing skills and engaging in scenarios, students work in small teams and also practice leadership.
