Herman Nelson Carvalho, 62, of Hilo died Aug. 2 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a bicycle repairman and member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea. Private services. Survived by wife, Donna Carvalho of Hilo; mother, Patsy Goveia of Kona; father, Mello Balgas of Honolulu; brothers, Ronald (Elema) Carvalho and Dennis Balgas of Kona, Michael Mercado of Ocean View; sisters, Dolly (Candance) Sanchez of Kona and Debra (Koko) Mercado of Honolulu; nieces and nephews. Shirley Ann Shizue Kamimura, 70, of Mililani, Oahu, formerly of Hilo, died Aug. 11 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired Waiakea Elementary School teacher, recreational golfer, artist and craftswoman, member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, Hawaii State Teachers Association-Retired, National Education Association-Retired and former member of Ahualani Community Association and Hilo Adult Tennis League. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by husband, Russell Kamimura of Mililani; daughter, Lori Kamimura of Hilo; son, Wade (Jan) Kamimura of Aiea, Oahu; brother, Gay (Maria) Miyakawa of Mililani; sister, Carol Ann Miyakawa of Honolulu; brothers-in-law, Garrett (Pat) Kamimura of Burlington, Wash., David (Joyce) Kamimura of Aiea and Wesley (Jan) Kamimura of Mountain View; two grandchildren; a nephew and nieces. Emily Lorraine Keohuloa, 87, of Pahala died Aug. 11 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pahala, she was a retired housekeeper and member of Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Pahala Senior Citizens Club and American Legion. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 31) at Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Pahala Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by daughters, Janice Noble of Hilo, Arlene (J.R. Palacat) Keohuloa of Kona, Rima (Dennis) Rocha of Keaau and Nadia (Kenneth Enitan) Keohuloa of Pahala; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Badua Keohuloa of Pahala; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. LaVerne Leionaona Lewis, 73, of Hilo died June 20 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Keaukaha, she was a caregiver, attendant at the former Waiakea Theaters and member of Panaewa Hawaiian Homes Land Community Association and Keaukaha Horseshoe Club. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 31) at Puhi Bay in Keaukaha. Celebration of life ceremony at 11 a.m. Scattering of ashes to follow. Aloha/casual attire or green clothing. Flowers and lei welcome. Survived by daughter, Laura Ann L. “Laurie” “Pake” Doria of Hilo; son, George K. Lewis of Hilo; brother, Eric K. (Diane) Kela of California; sister, Patience K. (Samson) Brown of Hilo; sister-in-law, Colleen L. Kela of California; daughters-in-law, Tina L. Nonies of Oahu and Dorothy K.
