KEAAU – Kohala freshman O’Shen Cazimero was unstoppable when attacking the rim, and Kamehameha’s best hope was to get him to foul out.
Cazimero sliced through the defense and sank a layup with 6.5 seconds left to lift the Cowboys over the Warriors 50-48 upset in a BIIF game on Friday at Koaia Gym.
The Warriors had difficulty stopping the smooth-dribbling Cazimero from scoring layups in half-court sets or in transition. But they did a nice job tagging fouls on him. Cazimero picked up his fourth with 2:05 remaining in the third quarter, which saw Kamehameha holding a 36-29 lead.
On a desperation 3-point attempt, Kaupena Yasso was fouled with .07 on the clock. He drained all three free throw attempts to give the Warriors a seven-point cushion heading into the final eight minutes.
In the fourth quarter, the Cowboys drained three 3-pointers, two by Kolby Agbayani and one by Moses Emeliano, which sliced Kamehameha’s lead to 44-42 with 2:46 left.
Elijah Antonio hit a jump shot to push Kohala ahead 46-45 with two minutes to play.
Izayah Chartrand-Penera hit three of four free throws to tie it 48-48 with 15.9 seconds left.
Kohala called a timeout with 14.3 seconds to play, and Cazimero got the inbound and ripped through the defense and dropped in a layup, his sixth of the game, with 6.5 seconds left.
Cazimero scored 16 points, Antonio 11 and Agbayani 10 for the Division II Cowboys (1-0), who shot 49 percent and made just 8 of 17 free throws.
Kilohana Haasenritter scored 14 points, while Yasso and Chartrand-Penera had 12 points each for the Division I Warriors (0-1), who converted 38 percent from the floor and made 17 of 27 free throws.
Kamehameha finished with 21 turnovers while the Cowboys had 15 giveaways.
In the JV game, it was Kamehameha 63, Kohala 57.

Konawaena 52, Honokaa 45: Quinten Hanato scored 11 points, and Aldrin Gadot and Ethan Neru chipped in with 10 apiece for the Wildcats (2-0), who used a 23-point fourth quarter to win on the road.
The game was tied 25-25 at the half, but the Dragons (0-1) pulled ahead 32-29 after three quarters.
Kaleb Yamasaki and Isaac Jardine scored 10 each for Honokaa.
In JV, Konawaena led 53-42.
