Lava lake drops as eruptions continue in Puna

This dramatic wide-angle view from Hawaiian Volcano Observatory captures the north portion of the overlook crater near the top of Kilauea. The lava lake has fallen hundreds of yards since the eruption in Leilani Estates began.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports that the summit lava lake near the top of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii Volcanoes National park has dropped significantly over the past few days, and Sunday evening it was roughly 240 yards below the crater rim.
