The Big Island Substance Abuse Council completed its third annual Therapy Kit Drive.

The project was started several years ago with the hope of making a difference in a keiki’s life. Children who are victims of abuse or domestic violence receive the kits to help provide a little comfort during a difficult time.

Each kit consists of a backpack containing a blanket, stuffed animal, toiletries, coloring books, notebooks, pencils and crayons.

The kits will be distributed through the East Hawaii Children’s Justice Center and BISAC.

“Since we began this project, we have collected over 375 kits,” said BISAC CEO Dr. Hannah Preston-Pita. “With continued support from many organizations, community members and an outpouring of support at our Walmart drives, we are able to inspire change and make a difference in a child’s life.”

Since 1964, BISAC has inspired individuals and families to reclaim and enrich their lives in the wake of the ravages of substance abuse. BISAC offers a continuum of services that are culturally appropriate and aligned with the ever-changing behavioral health field.
