Despite an overwhelming shots advantage, the Hawaii soccer team fell in its Big West season opener, 1-0 at UC Davis on Thursday
UH (5-5 overall) outshot the Aggies (2-9, 1-0) by a count of 19-7 but a 36th-minute header goal by Mckenna Moriarty was all that mattered. UCD goalkeeper Alexis Smith recorded 11 saves as the Rainbow Wahine peppered the goal area repeatedly, especially in the second half, to no avail.
The Wahine had their three-game road winning streak to cap nonconference play snapped, as they fell to 0-6 in BWC openers since joining the conference in 2012.
Raisa Strom-Okimoto and Lei Medeiros led UH with four shots apiece.
UH continues play at preseason Big West favorite Long Beach State on Sunday.
