In regard to Mr. Scott Brown’s letter (Tribune-Herald, Your Views, Aug. 1): In this time of political upheaval and unrest in the White House, Dana Milbank’s column is something I enjoy reading.
His opinions are food for thought, and he fits into my diet quite well.
I, for one, am happy that part of my subscription fee is paid to him. Lighten up, Mr. Brown, and keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

The one-sided reporting on the alleged “oceans rising” (not the land sinking), the “hottest year on record” and all the hot air about our president has reached critical mass with this conservative American.
So, consider this letter to be my notice to cancel my paper subscription immediately and forever. I don’t do business with people who are blind, as are the new leaders at the Tribune Hot Air Propaganda Mill!
Whenever you global windbags want to debate the issue — which you have never done in the history of the movement — give me a call or any of the thousands of climate scientists who have offered to debate you or your chief nonscientist: Al Gore!

Oahu should pay
The entire rail issue regarding the funding mechanism the Legislature is considering for a special session is completely misleading and disturbing.
Comparing the rail to neighbor island facilities such as airports and harbors is an ignorant comparison — state function versus city function. Just leave the half percent GE tax in place for Honolulu. As a frequent traveler to Oahu, I am not happy to pay that, but so be it.
Regarding the Transient Accommodation Tax: Leave that alone! Neighbor island travel already is expensive enough and increasing that tax will burden neighbor island people MORE, with higher hotel prices. The resort fees are ridiculous enough and most business travel or hospital travel doesn’t allow locals time to enjoy the amenities, yet we get stuck with that charge.
Neighbor island legislators: Please stop playing Oahu politics and start looking out for what is best for your constituents.
This debate is so easy. Make Oahu residents pay for their train, not the neighbor island residents.
There was a reason why past precedents always tried to have the House Finance Committee chair usually be a neighbor island representative. This was a check and balance to ensure neighbor island needs would be addressed. Perfect example of what has changed — and evidently not for the better.
