Two hospitalized after Saddle Road crash

A collision late Sunday afternoon on Saddle Road resulted in two people being taken to Hilo Medical Center in serious condition.

According to a written Fire Department statement, a sport-utility vehicle was trying to cross the Saddle at the intersection of Mauna Kea access road and was broadsided by a Hilo-bound pickup truck.

The driver and the passenger of the SUV were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Saddle Road was closed for about an hour after the crash.
