The National Weather Service extended a high surf warning for the shores of North Kona, Kohala, Hamakua and Puna through this morning.
Surf up to 25 feet is possible for north-facing shores and surf up to 15 feet is predicted for east- and west-facing shores.
Hawaii County Civil Defense advised residents to be on alert for high and dangerous surf.
Bayfront Highway, all Hilo beach parks, Coconut Island, the parking area near Mooheau Band Stand, Mahukona Wharf and Keokea Beach Park were closed Wednesday afternoon as a precaution.
