Kupuna exercise group, instructor honored

Twice a week, more than a hundred seniors gather at the Waiakea Recreation Center in Hilo to exercise for better health.

Nearly 100 of the participants and others gathered recently during a luncheon to honor their volunteer instructor, Ron Takeya, who has led them to fitness for the past seven years. Also honored were five “golden girls” ages 90 and older.

Local donors that contributed to each participant’s goody bag were HELCO, HMSA, Big Island Candies, Walk Wise Hawaii as well as donations from individual exercise members.
