The Hawaii State Public Library System invites readers of all ages to sign up and participate in its 2016 Summer Reading Program from June 5-July 16.
“Health and Fitness for the Mind, Body and Soul” is this year’s theme.
Registration is underway for the free six-week program at all 50 public libraries statewide. Contact your local library for details and guidelines.
“Staying fit includes giving our amazing reading muscles a work out!” said State Librarian Stacey Aldrich. “We are encouraging everyone to read at least 20 minutes a day. For students, it can help prevent the summer reading slide and improve vocabulary.
For families, it’s a great way to spend quality time reading together.
“We hope everyone will join and have a fun and reading-fit summer!”
Weekly incentives for participants will be provided, including a Marcus Mariota READ poster, featuring the NFL quarterback from Hawaii, while supplies last.
New this year, participants who complete four or more weeks will receive a free book. Olympian Kristi Yamaguchi’s Always Dream Foundation donated Leap Frog books such as Disney-Pixar’s “Brave” and “Monsters University,” and Nickelodeon’s “Dora the Explorer.”
