Alfred Alatan, 90, of Pepeekeo died Dec. 13 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kalopa, Hawaii he was a retired crane operator for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co. and member of the Good Shepherd Mission Catholic Church and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 29) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial at Alae Cemetery, section L. Casual attire; flowers welcome. Survived by wife, Felicidad “Fely” Alatan of Pepeekeo; sons, Michael Alatan of Honolulu, Gerald Alatan of Pepeekeo and David Alatan of Hilo; daughters, Laura Fontes and Nancy (Arnold) Areola of Keaau, Verna Alatan of Pepeekeo; brothers, Leonardo (Chieko) Alatan of Pepeekeo, Gilmore (Sonny) Claonan of Puna and Eddie Recopilacion of Oahu; sisters, Rosemary Moses of Pepeekeo, Frances Spidell of Hilo, Elizabeth Maldonado of Orange County, Calif., Agnes Kerstetter of San Diego, Julia Boreliz and Frannie Rodrigues of Honolulu; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
