The nonprofit Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center presents a conflict-resolution workshop, “From Conflict to Connection,” at 9 a.m. April 18 at the Girl Scout Building (Neighborhood Place of Puna) in Kea‘au.
“Many of us are terrified of conflict as being inevitably harsh and harmful,” said Dr. Gay Barfield, who will lead the session. “The result? Even normal arguments or differences create reactions in us of avoidance, placating or sudden escalation.”
This community workshop provides a half-day of skills-building for anyone who wants to understand and better handle conflict.
Barfield is a human relations educator, trainer, consultant and therapist specializing in the late Carl R. Rogers’ person-centered approach to diversity, conflict dialogue, and listening across differences at work, at home, cross-culturally and between genders.
Tuition for “From Conflict to Connection” is $50. Group discounts and partial scholarships are available.
To register, contact Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center Executive Director Julie Mitchell at 935-7844, Ext. 5, or julie@hawaiimediation.org.
