Hiker dies after falling during Hawaii hike

HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu authorities said a 21-year-old man died after falling about 50 feet during a hike on an Oahu trail.

The hiker was with a group when he fell shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday on the Pali Notches trail in Nuuanu.

Authorities said Honolulu firefighters airlifted the man at about 5:30 p.m., taking him to a secured landing spot.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Kendall Ching said the hiker was pronounced dead at the scene.
