Hilo doctor Joseph D’Angelo was one of two Nevada Army Guard officers promoted to the rank of colonel during a ceremony March 13 hosted by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval at the state Capitol in Carson City.
D’Angelo is the squadron surgeon for 1st Squadron, 221st Cavalry headquartered in Las Vegas. In his civilian occupation on the Big Island, he is a pediatrician and pediatric cardiologist at Island Pediatrics in Hilo.
Also promoted was Joanne Farris of Reno, Nev., who has been in the Nevada Army Guard since 1989. Farris will assume command of the 991st Multi-Functional Brigade this spring.
“These officers are not being promoted because of their past accomplishments and achievements, but because of their demonstrated potential to benefit the military at an even higher level of leadership and responsibility,” said Nevada Adjutant General Brig. Gen. Bill Burks during the ceremony.
