During its 48th Annual Meeting and Shinnenkai on Feb. 15, the East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai announced it is offering two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to continue their post-high school education this fall.
Applicants must be a senior at any East Hawaii public or private high school and must enroll full time at any accredited college or university for the 2015-16 academic year, registering for 12 credits or more. Applicants must be children or grandchildren of an East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai member.
Application forms and instructions are available at the counselor offices at East Hawaii public and private high schools. The deadline for the 2015 scholarships is April 18; applications must be postmarked by this date.
The Kenjin Kai also honored the Beiju recipients, those who reached the age of 88 in 2014, with a certificate from the Kenjin Kai and a commemorative citation from Gov. Hidehiko Yuzaki of Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.
Beiju recipients were Yaeko Ebesugawa, Satsuki Ebesugawa, Clara Finn, George Hashimoto, Fumie Jyo, Kay Kawazoe, Nobuo Matsui, Edward Miyamoto, Itsuko Murakami, Ishiko Okada, Sue Ota, Elaine Takahata, Utako Taniguchi, Masato Taniguchi, Kimie Tanihiro, Bernice Tomiyama, Shoniro Yano and Tamayo Yoshioka.
