It’s a family breakfast, so come and celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday with specially prepared green eggs and ham by the Honokaa cafeteria manager Schoen Maekawa and staff from 7:15-7:45 a.m. Tuesday. The cost is $2.20 per person.
The meal must be paid by Monday so the cafe can prepare the correct amount of food. Once paid, your name will be added to a master list so you can go straight to the cafeteria.
Please realize that no breakfasts will be sold the day of the event.

Crunch, munch and read with Dad (or the significant male in your child’s life) to help honor Dr. Seuss and celebrate “Read to Me” Week at Honokaa Elementary.
Give dad an opportunity to bond and have fun with their kids while re-enforcing valuable reading skills, such as fluency and comprehension. Also, celebrate the joy of reading from 12:30-1 p.m. Wednesday at the school.
Parking will be at the complex, and you can walk to the school. Sign in at the office, get a name tag and go to your child’s class. If you have more than one child, pick them up and go to one of the designated reading areas. Enjoy reading with your child for 30 minutes.
You may bring your own books or the teachers will have a selection for you to choose from. If you have any other questions, call Hilda Yagong at 775-8820.

The Hawaii Saddle Club is proud to offer $500 and $1000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors going on to an accredited college or university. These scholarships also will be offered to students currently enrolled in a college or university.
Through the years, the Hawaii Saddle Club has awarded scholarships throughout the Big Island. Again, it is looking to support the youth of Hawaii and awaiting this year’s applicants. This scholarships are geared toward students with rodeo/agricultural backgrounds, but open to any eligible applicant.

The Rural South Hilo Community Association will host a general membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Papaikou Community Center. The topics are: mid-Legislative report by state Rep. Mark Nakashima and state Sen. Lorraine Inouye, community updates and a special recognition.
Nominations for RSHCA board of directors also will be accepted. The positions are: president, first vice president (Pepeekeo area), second vice president (Papaikou area), third vice president (Honomu area), recording secretary, corresponding cecretary and treasurer.
Individuals must be present at the meeting to accept the nomination.

“Classic Rock” is the theme of this year’s 22nd annual Ukulele Festival at Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA).
The event begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. The performance, which is free and open to the public, will be hosted at Gates Performing Arts Center, located at HPA’s Upper Campus in Waimea. More than 120 students from HPA, Kealakehe Intermediate School and Waikoloa Schools will perform under the direction of Dagan Bernstein, Barbara Kopra and Georgia Polakova (HPA); Gloria Juan (Kealakehe); and Lani ‘Opunui (Waikoloa).
The festival will feature arrangements of classic rock songs and dances from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. In celebrating the timeless quality of this music, students will perform arrangements of some classic favorites from Led Zeppelin, Queen, Santana, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Eagles, Steppenwolf, Journey, Cream, Van Halen, Joan Jett and Black Sabbath.
